VietOrigin focuses on well-made products that reflect craftsmanship, quality, and practical use. Our first products are handmade kitchen knives forged by skilled blacksmiths in traditional Vietnamese knife-making villages.
Over time we plan to introduce additional knife series and other carefully selected products that complement their use in the kitchen, as well as other distinctive products from Vietnam. -
When selecting products, we focus on craftsmanship, durability, and practical use. Whenever possible, we work with specialized handmade workshops and traditional craft villages.
If a product cannot be sourced this way, we may work with small workshops or producers that share similar values of quality and reliability. We also aim to pay fair prices that respect the work and skill of the craftsmen and help support the communities that produce these products.
-
Many of the products we offer are handmade or produced by small workshops. Because of this, small variations in appearance or finish can occur. These differences are normal and part of the character of handcrafted items.
-
Our focus is on products made in Vietnam. However, if we believe a product is important for our assortment and we cannot find a suitable option in Vietnam, we may source it from another location.
Whenever this happens, the origin of the product will always be clearly stated on the product page.

-
Yes. Our knives are handmade by skilled blacksmiths in traditional Vietnamese knife-making workshops. Each blade is forged, shaped, ground, and finished by hand.
Because of this process, small variations in appearance or finish can occur. These differences are normal and reflect the handcrafted nature of the knife.
-
Our knives are currently made in An Tiêm, a traditional knife-making village in Vietnam with a long history of blacksmithing. We work directly with craftsmen there who continue this tradition today.
You can read more about how we discovered these craftsmen on our About Us page.
-
Our knives are made from carbon steel. This type of steel can take a very sharp edge and hold that edge longer than softer stainless steels.
The blades are hardened to approximately 63 ± 2 HRC, which helps them maintain sharpness for longer periods while still being suitable for everyday kitchen use.
Detailed specifications for each knife can be found on the individual product pages. -
Our knives are sharpened to approximately 15° per side, allowing for precise cutting and a very sharp edge.
-
Many well-known kitchen knives come from Germany or Japan. Vietnam also has a long tradition of forging knives and agricultural tools.
The craftsmen we work with produce durable and practical blades using traditional techniques, resulting in knives that combine strong cutting performance with a long history of craftsmanship.
-
Yes. The knives perform very well in everyday kitchen tasks and can be used by both experienced cooks and beginners.
Like any carbon steel knife, they require simple care such as hand washing, drying after use, and occasional sharpening. For detailed instructions, see our Knife Care & Maintenance Guide.
-
Because the knives are handmade, small differences in finish, texture, or color can occur. These variations are normal and part of what makes each knife unique.
They do not affect the performance of the knife.
-
Carbon steel can rust if left wet or stored in a humid environment. This is normal for this type of steel.
Rust is easy to prevent with simple habits such as washing the knife by hand, drying it after use, and storing it properly.
For detailed care instructions, please see our Knife Care & Maintenance Guide. -
Over time the blade may develop darker tones, blue shades, or grey patterns. This is called a patina and is a natural reaction of carbon steel when it comes into contact with food and moisture.
Patina is normal and can even help protect the blade from rust.
You can read more about this in our Knife Care & Maintenance Guide. -
No. Dishwashers expose knives to heat, moisture, and strong detergents that can damage both the blade and the wooden handle.
Always wash the knife by hand and dry it after cleaning. -
This depends on how often the knife is used. With normal home cooking, sharpening on a whetstone is typically recommended every 4–6 months.
Regular honing can help maintain sharpness between sharpening sessions.
More detailed sharpening information can be found in our Knife Care & Maintenance Guide. -
Wooden cutting boards such as walnut, maple, or cherry are recommended. Plastic boards are also suitable.
Avoid glass, ceramic, marble, or stone cutting surfaces, as these can quickly dull or damage the edge of the knife. -
Avoid cutting bones, frozen foods, or very hard ingredients.
As a general rule, do not cut anything you would not comfortably bite into. Twisting or prying with the blade should also be avoided to prevent chipping. -
